2. English Translation

Hello everyone!

I'm Goody, and I'm here to study Korean with you.

How is your hot summer going?

Today, we will talk about summer.

Summer is a very hot season with a lot of sunshine.

Many people like summer.

Because they can go to the beach or water parks and enjoy playing in the water.

But I don't like summer.

Because It's too hot and I sweat a lot.

And I don't like the sticky feeling.

Do you like summer?

In summer, many Koreans go to vacation spots.

They travel to different places such as the sea, mountains, and valleys.

Especially, seaside cities like Gangneung or Busan are very popular.

You can swim in the sea and enjoy barbecue parties.

I went to Gangneung with my friends in the summer.

We arrived at the beach early in the morning and spent the whole day swimming and playing in the sand.

And in the evening, we grilled pork belly and sausages. It was very delicious.

A typical Korean food that comes to mind when thinking of summer is ‘Samgyetang’.

‘Samgyetang’ is a boiled dish made with chicken, ginseng, jujubes, and garlic.

Eating it in the hot summer gives you energy.

Cold Naengmyeon is also popular.

‘Naengmyeon’ is a cold noodle dish that is great to eat in the hot summer.

In summer, Korea has a rainy season called ‘Jangma.’

Jangma is a period when it rains a lot in the summer.

It usually lasts from late June to mid-July.

During the rainy season, the humidity gets high and it gets muggy.

Laundry doesn’t dry well, and the house can feel damp.

If it rains too much, there can be floods, so we always have to be careful.

When I was a child, we often made ‘kimchijeon’ at home during the rainy season.

Kimchijeon on a rainy day are really delicious.

You shouldn’t leave out ‘Pajeon (green onion pancakes)’, too.

Even now, when it rains, I often make kimchijeon or Pajeon.

There are also things to be careful about in summer.

Because it's so hot, there's a risk of dehydration, so you need to drink a lot of water.

Also, the sun is very strong, so your skin can get tan or you can get sunburned.

So when you go outside, you must put on sunscreen and wear a hat.

I like to relax in a cool indoor place in the summer.

I go to a cool cafe to drink something or go to a movie theater with good air conditioning.

Today, we talked about summer.

What activities do you like in summer?

Is there any food that comes to mind when you think of summer?

Let me know in the comments! See you next time! Bye!
